Connecticut and the Civil War - Commemoration Kick-Off
On April 16 and 17, 2011, The Connecticut Civil War Commemoration Commission kicked off four years of events in observance of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Weekend activities included vintage baseball games, firearms demonstrations, an encampment and re-enactments at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain; and opening ceremonies and an exhibit hall at Central Connecticut State University.
The Middlesex County Historical Society had a table in the exhibit hall, with many other historical societies and other organizations who are sponsoring events in honor of the commemoration. We were serenaded with music of the period by the lively Camp Lincoln String Band.
